Speaker Biographies

Michael Cavanaugh Blaes, Senior Legal Counsel – AML/BSA & Deputy Chief Compliance Officer, Mergers & Acquisitions – U.S. Bancorp
Michael was born and raised in Wichita Kansas.  He graduated from the University of Notre Dame with honors, before continuing to obtain his Masters in Business Administration from that same University.  Michael then graduated from the Washington University in St. Louis School of law.  Upon graduation he practiced in Chicago at the firm of Gardner, Carton and Douglas for two years.  He and his wife then moved to Minneapolis, MN where he remained in private practice for the law firm of Halleland, Lewis, Nylan and Johnson for two more years.  For the last five years Michael has been working for U.S. Bancorp in downtown Minneapolis where he is presently Senior Legal Counsel for AML / BSA issues and the Deputy Chief Compliance Officer for Mergers and Acquisitions Transactions.

In addition to his duties to U.S. Bancorp, Michael remains active within the legal academic community as an adjunct professor.  He has taught Corporations, Securities Regulation, Corporate Finance, and is presently teaching a course he helped to design and launch on Business Externships at the University of St. Thomas School of Law.
